Chiharu Shiota

The Key in the Hand 2015

With the 57th la Biennale di Venezia due to open in May 2017, I decided to go back and have a look at some of the work that I loved in the 2015 Biennale. One of the most memorable pieces was by the Japanese installation artist Chiharu Shiota and her work titled The Key in the Hand. While this piece was spectacular in more ways than one, it was actually the subtle and more hidden work by Shiota titled How Did You Come Into The World that was most moving for me. A video installation on three monitors all asking small children from various cultural backgrounds the same question..."How did you come into the world?"  Unfortunately images can not capture this work.
