Phyllis Thomas was born in 1933 in Riya Western Australia. She now lives and works in Warmun in the East Kimberly region of Western Australia. Phyllis is a senior Gija artist form the Gija language group, Naggara skin group. This work talks about scarification, "a series of long white horizontal and vertical lines that map out initiation scars on the body and chest." The four panels visually convey the act of story telling through ceremony and initiation rites.
